Holiday Weeks / Improvers
A chance to push your grade and try a new challenge
The Improvers week is aimed at people who have experience of lead climbing. This trip will offer you all the right conditions to push your grade on some of Catalunya's finest rock lines.
The week is aimed at the following type of climber:
- Those with indoor lead climbing experience wanting to transition to the outdoors
- Those who are getting frustrated with their fear of falling
- Those who have been hitting a plateau in their climbing
- Those for whom the initial joy of climbing seems to have faded
- People who generally climb at least once a week – indoors or outside
- People climbing 6’s or 7’s who don’t have a regular climbing partner and who want a climbing holiday with others keen to climb
- Those who have a lot of experience but haven’t climbed for a while and are recently starting again.
All Climb Catalunya holidays offer great climbing on quality rock with dedicated trip organisers to guarantee you an excellent holiday. They offer relaxation, fun, the chance to explore many different types of rock and beautiful surroundings. We’ll take you to a range of places that will offer appropriate learning situations to help you progress, consolidate and have fun throughout the week whether it is steep overhanging tufas, delicate technical routes or resistance defying conglomerate to help you become a great all round climber. What's the same is you'll still get to benefit from our amazing base in Abella de la Conca or Figols.
The first day is spent climbing a variety of state-of-the-art sports routes demanding the use of a wide range of climbing styles. This helps us to assess your strengths and weaknesses so that over the next few days we can work on reinforcing and expanding the positive aspects of your climbing while eliminating the bad habits and psychological doubts that contribute to under par performance. The course is based on the Warriors Way Mental training method and addresses all the issues critical to high performance sports climbing: preparing mentally and physically for hard climbs; optimal lead climbing techniques including clipping best-practice and knowing how to fall; the use of red-pointing to promote mind/body synthesis; and winning the head game by learning how to make more appropriate risk decisions and Learning how to stay committed to let your body climb without your mind interfering. The bulk of the instruction happens on day 2 & 3 where we will go through: learning Falling as a skill, Make better assessment & risk decision, How to optimise resting & Learn to trust the body to climb without the mind interfering to move better and stay committed.
All in all a very complete week that will get you either pushing the grades or just simply understand how to find joy in climbing consistently.
If you want it, we can offer one to one feedback during the rest of the week and video filming so you can see your mistakes and identify main areas for individual progression throughout the week. This is optional and you can express your interest in this kind of feedback at any point during the week. We strongly recommend taking a rest day during this trip. This day will be a chance to pick up tips on warm up and warm down techniques, injury prevention, strengthening exercises, stretching and the importance of core strength development.
The Advanced Improvers week is basically the same as the improvers week but is reserved to people climbing 7a and above who have already completed the Warriors Way mental training with us or any other Warriors Way certified instructor. It is a week to fully focus on performance. We spend the first day quickly going through the Warriors Way material to ensure that we are all on the same page with regard to Falling, Risk decisions and Commitment. We strongly encourage you to red point during this week as making major onsight progress in a week is complicated.
